Growing Tips
Watermelon 'Sugar Baby' thrives in full sun with warm temperatures and well-drained, sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. Space plants 2–3 feet apart in rows 5–6 feet apart, or plant in hills with 2–3 plants per hill. Water deeply and consistently, especially during fruit development. Mulch around plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep fruit clean. The compact vines make this variety ideal for smaller gardens. Melons are ready to harvest in 75–80 days when the tendril nearest the fruit turns brown and the bottom spot turns creamy yellow.
